There are two applications to use, one with windows for designing and processing content, and one to run the same processes in the background for server or task use.
The way this is done is by applying static or record data to your templates, one record at a time and construction the output from your templates. The way to place a data field is simple and flexible to keep with the design of your template.
Also, some simple logic can be applied in the template to control the output to be exactly what you want.
Your data source
For a data source of records you can use
- a delimited file,
- an SQL like database,
- an Excel spreadsheet or
- any OleDb or ODBC connected data file you have used for your data.
- The files in a Windows file system folder
This is your data so you will use your existing tools and applications to keep your data up to date.
As the application is improved, more data source types will be added and enabled when a license for the newer data sources is purchased.
If you have a data source you’d like to see used, please let us know and we’ll look into adding it on.
Your templates
For output you can use any text based template like text, HTML, RTF, XML, JSON, CSV etc. This should be ideally designed in your existing tools.
You can have a single output file generated for all your content, or a file for each record, or a file for every so many records, like every 10 or 20 records.
Once you have your template the way you’d like it, import it into one of the three template fields and separate it into
- Header The content to use before any record template is used for each output file
- Record repeating template part for each matching record
- Footer The content to use after records are processed for each output file
For now, the template parts are shown as plain text, so you will need to know where to look to place the field values in the template pieces.
Alternatively you can use the field placement notation in your design as long as you know the fields you want to use.
